After its highly acclaimed world premiere in London and an enthusiastically received gala screening at the film festival in Toronto, Ron Howard’s racing drama „Rush“ will celebrate its German premiere in Cologne’s Cinedom tomorrow evening. The director, who was awarded an Oscar for „A Beautiful Mind“, is expected to be joined on the red carpet by the lead actors Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth and Alexandra Maria Lara as well as screenwriter Peter Morgan and the racing legend Niki Lauda. The action epic was co-produced by Hürth-based action concept Film- und Stuntproduktion, and large parts were made in North Rhine-Westphalia.
„In Toronto, the film and cast were praised to the skies by the American critics and audience; in Zurich, ‚Rush“ was a brillant opener for the film festival; and in England, the drama is currently No. 1 at the box office. As a funder, we share the whole team’s elation about the fantastic reactions on the international stage and are certain that this gripping film will thrill many cinema-goers – and especially female ones – in Germany as well“, Petra Müller, CEO of Film- und Medienstiftung NRW says
„Rush“ tells the story of the legendary rivalry between the two Formula One drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt, who fought a fascinating head-to-head race over several weeks during the championship season of 1976 – a rivalry that almost cost Niki Lauda his life after a serious accident. The leads are taken by Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, Daniel Brühl as Niki Lauda as well as Olivia Wilde and Alexandra Maria Lara. The producers include Hürth-based action concept Film- und Stuntproduktion, Egoli Tossell Film, Revolution Films (GB) and Cross Creek Pictures (US). The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW funded the film with € 1.35 million, additional funding was provided by MFG Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF).
The film will be released in German cinemas on 3 October 2013 by Universum Film. Further information and the film’s trailer can be found at www.rush-film.de.
